The Atlanta Braves – along with Major League Baseball – released their 2015 regular season schedules today. The ball club will open next season in Miami against the Marlins. The Braves 2015 home opener will be held against the Mets on Friday, April 10 at 7:35 pm EST.
The team’s first home game in 2014 was also against the Metropolitan’s.
2015 Schedule Structure
2013 marked the first time that each team played 19-games against each of their 4 division opponents, 6-7 inter-division games, and 20 inter-league games. This structure will continue in Major League Baseball for 2015.
National League East Matchups
Each club in the NL East will play each other at least once – home and away – the first month of next year.
The Braves and Nationals will only meet at Turner Field for 9-games. I would like to see the number of games played against division opponents increased to 21. With the new Wild Card structure, winning the division has become more important than ever before and teams should be facing off against their rivalries more often.
As the Marlins continue to improve, I expect these matchups to become more heated next year. The team has already taken major strides under skipper Mike Redmond. Just like the Nationals as few years, the Marlins are building their club around talented pitching.
Inter-league Games
Atlanta Braves fans can look forward to some awesome inter-league matchups in 2015. As the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Toronto Blue Jays will be visiting The Ted. For the first time in over 20-years the Yankees will be without “Captain Clutch” Derek Jeter.
Next year should also mark the return of former Braves All-Star catcher Brian McCann. “Big Mac” played for the club from 2005 – 2013 and signed with NYY as a free-agent this past off-season.
