When your family is in town for the holidays, it can be tough to decide what to do with the in-laws, the kids home from school, or anyone you’re trying to impress. On any given day, Atlanta has plenty of events going on, especially during the holidays. Check out our favorite things to do and have some fun with your family!
A Christmas Carol
Everyone’s favorite Christmas story, A Christmas Carol, will be performed at the Alliance Theater through Christmas Eve. This marks the 25th year the Alliance has been staging this Dickens classic! Don’t miss Ebenezer Scrooge witness his own past, present and future as he learns an important holiday lesson. What better way to get in the holiday spirit than with A Christmas Carol? The show runs all weekend with matinee and evening showtimes.
Atlanta Hawks vs. Milwaukee Bucks
It’s the day after Christmas… you don’t want to go shopping and you’re too stuffed to go out to dinner. Why not head down to Philips Arena and catch an Atlanta Hawks game. The Hawks are on a hot streak lately, and rank 2nd in their division. This could be a great family event and tickets to this particular game aren’t too high. Grab a hot dog or some nachos from the Hawk Walk and settle down to watch the Hawks try to defeat the Milwaukee Bucks. Tip-off is on Friday, December 26th at 7:30pm.
Atlanta Falcons vs. Carolina Panthers
If you’re a sports fan, why not take your family to an NFL game? This game is a battle between two NFC South teams. Neither team has a great record, but even so, they are both in the running to make it to the top of their division and earn a playoff spot! Tickets to this game are much more affordable than many of the previous games this season. There are some great tickets still available! Kick-off is at 1pm on December 28th.
Gregg Allman
While the Allman Brothers are no longer touring, Gregg Allman isn’t letting anything slow him down! He recently announced a small tour of the southeast, including a New Year’s Eve stop at the Atlanta Symphony Hall. Allman’s soulful voice and fantastic keyboard and guitar skills can be a great way to ring in the new year. The show is 9:00pm at the Atlanta Symphony Hall on New Year’s Eve.
Atlanta Botanical Garden Lights
This 20-acre light display in midtown Atlanta is not one to miss! The botanical inspired holiday light display is available to see now, and will run through the new year. The show will even be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day! Head down to midtown to get yourself and your family into the holiday spirit with some amazing lights!
