Atlanta United has had a great run in their first year as a team. With most home games sold out, and many games won, it has been a great season. Atlanta United FC has just two games left in the regular season. Luckily, the team has already clinched a playoff berth in their inaugural year!
Atlanta United FC Regular Season Games
Atlanta United will play one away game, and one home game in the remainder of the season.
First, Atlanta United FC heads north to play the New York Red Bulls on October 15th. The Red Bulls defeated Atlanta in their very first game of the season back in March. Atlanta United is sure to be raring for payback after the 1-2 loss.
The last United FC game of the regular season will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against Toronto FC. On October 22nd, Mercedes-Benz Stadium will be filled with fans cheering for a win! Again, Atlanta United was denied a win against Toronto FC back in April, ending the game with a 2-2 draw in Ontario.
Atlanta United FC Playoffs
Wednesday, September 27th, Atlanta United made history! The team clinched a playoff spot. This makes the Five Stripes the third expansion team to ever make playoffs.
An expansion team has not made it past regular season since 2009. With a dominant 3-0 win over Philadelphia Union, the team proved their worth!
Currently the third seed in the Eastern Conference, Atlanta will play their first game as a “Knockout Round Match” on October 25th at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Atlanta will host the 6th seed in this single-elimination knockout game.
If Atlanta wins the knockout round, they will then move on to the Conference Semi-Finals! This is a two-game aggregate series, where Atlanta would host either the first or second game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The full MLS playoff schedule is as follows:
