The MLS is back! And along with it, Atlanta United FC. On July 8, games will resume for the MLS is Back Tournament. While things may look a little different, players and fans alike will be happy for the return of sports!
MLS is Back Tournament: Important Facts
- All 26 clubs will play in Orlando, Florida.
- The tournament kicks off on July 8 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
- The full schedule has not been announced, stay tuned!
- The first stage of the tournament is a group stage, followed by a knock out stage. Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and the Championship match to follow.
- There will be 54 games total, with 26 Matchdays.
- The minimum matches are 3 per club, and the maximum is 7 per club.
- Each group stage match counts towards the 2020 MLS regular season standings.
- The winning team will earn a spot in the 2021 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
- Additionally, players will be eligible to receive additional bonuses in the event of a win.
- Extensive measures will be taken to ensure the safety of players and personnel. Also, a new Covid-19 testing plan is in place.
- All 54 matches will air on MLS partner networks. Additionally, there are new fan involvement features!

- Teams arrive in Florida – June 24
- MLS is Back Tournament group stage begins – July 8
- Round of 16 – July 25-28
- Quarterfinals – July 30-August 1
- Semifinals – August 5-6
- MLS is Back Tournament Final – August 11
Atlanta United FC in the MLS is Back Tournament
Six club representatives helped to determine the Group Stage of the tournament. Atlanta United Vice President Carlos Bocanegra was one of the representatives to help determine the group stage. Atlanta United drew Group E, which includes matches against:
- FC Cincinnati
- New York Red Bulls
- Columbus Crew SC
The regular season is set to continue after the MLS is Back Tournament. Atlanta United FC fans will be excited to see the return of the Five Stripes to Mercedes-Benz Stadium after a long hiatus!
