Fantasy football can be a love/hate relationship. We love to play it, hate to lose. Sometimes the bench outscores the active roster, and sometimes your first round pick records only one catch in the entire game. We endure busts, surprises, and try our best to make predictions.
Week 5 Busts
- Lesean McCoy (RB) Philadelphia Eagles- Week 5 showed yet another lackluster performance from Leasean McCoy, a player who many fantasy owners likely used a first round draft pick upon. While McCoy is still getting the volume, including 24 touches in Week 5′ game against the St. Louis Rams, he hasn’t had the performance fantasy owners are accustomed to. This Sunday the Eagles take on the Giants, who should be an easier opponent for the star running back.
- Julian Edelman (WR) New England Patriots- Three straight weeks of decent points from Edelman came to a screeching halt in Week 4. As it turns out, Week 5 was no different. Edelman caught 5-of-8 targets for 35 in a win over the Bengals. With Rob Gronkowski steadily getting back to peak performance, and TE2 Tim Wright catching 5-5 passes with a touchdown, Edelman’s workload may continue to decrease.
Week 5 Surprises
- Andre Williams (RB) New York Giants- Rashad Jennings suffered a knee sprain in the Giants Week 5 win over the Atlanta Falcons. For a rookie, Williams has put up a solid performance in 2 games, and is now thrust into the limelight. With two favorable match-ups on the way, Andre Williams is a pleasant surprise for any fantasy owners lucky enough to pick up this Boston College sleeper.
- Austin Davis (QB) St. Louis Rams– Sam Bradford is out for the year, and Austin Davis has been named the starting quarterback for the Rams. Davis completed 29-of-49 passes for 375 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in Week 5. That puts Davis at two straight weeks with three touchdowns. The San Francisco 49ers may be a little less forgiving than past match-ups, but Davis has been a nice surprise thus far.
Week 6 Predictions
- Eli Manning (QB) New York Giants- Manning should be a great play this week, as the Philadelphia Eagles have one of the worst secondaries in the league, and allowed the most fantasy points for opposing quarterbacks this season. Manning has thrown for 20 touchdowns in his last eight games versus the Eagles.
- Branden Oliver (RB) San Diego Chargers – One of the fantasy pickups of the week! Brandon Oliver had an amazing game against the New York Jets last week, averaging 6 yards per carry, and 17 yards per target. Ryan Matthews and Donald Brown are still ailing, so this makes Oliver a great option against a Raiders defense that has allowed an average of 23 fantasy points per game to opposing running backs.
