This Saturday, MLS season begins in Atlanta. Atlanta United FC will play their Home Opener against New England Revolution on March 9th. Fun Facts for Atlanta United FC Opening Match 2024
- Greg Garza, a 2018 MLS Cup team member will be available at the Front Porch before the match for photos.
- Atlanta United FC will don “The 17’s Kit,” a throwback to the orginal kits with the classic five stripes front and center.
- Mercedes-Benz Stadium’s roof is set to be closed for this match.
About the Atlanta United FC Golden Spike
If this is your first match, some of the traditions may be unfamiliar, even a little strange. One of the most important traditions for Atlanta United FC games, is the Golden Spike Ceremony. Ninety minutes before the game, the players arrive at the stadium to sign the Golden Spike. Then, fans are invited to sign as well. Once the Supporter’s March begins, the spike is carried into the stadium. Next, the Golden Spike is hammered into a railroad platform by an ATLien, many times a celebrity. With each hammer, the crowd chants “A-T-L.”
Once the match is complete, there is a post-game ceremony. A chosen player is awarded a smaller version of the Golden Spike. The recipient is voted on by fans via the Altanta United FC app.

- The Clear Bag Policy is in effect! Bags must be CLEAR plastic, vinyl or PVC and not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”.
- Tickets are mobile only. Screenshots are not accepted. Load your tickets into your Atlanta United FC Account Manager, or save them to your mobile wallet for quick access.
- ADA parking is available in the Blue and Yellow Lot.
- Not all parking lots allow tailgating – be sure to check your lot rules.
- Don’t forget: Alcohol sales end in the 70th minute of the match.
- The Supporter’s Section is a fun, rowdy way to experience an Atlanta United FC game. This section sings, chants and stands the ENTIRE match.
