The Atlanta Braves will be giving away their third bobblehead in 2014 on Tuesday, June 17, as the Braves play the Phillies in Turner Field at 7:10 pm EDT. Only the first 20,000 fans through the gate will receive the free Greg Maddux bobblehead.
Maddux was drafted in the second round of the 1984 Major League Baseball Draft by the Chicago Cubs. He earned four Cy Young Awards, made eight All-Star Game appearances, and collected 18 Gold Glove Awards during his 23-year big league career.
The starting pitcher’s only championship came with the Braves in 1995. One of his best seasons with the team also came in ’95 as he went 19-2 with a league best 1.63 ERA.
He pitched for Atlanta from 1993 – 2003 and collected 194 of his 355 career wins. Maddux’s jersey was retired by Braves franchise in 2009. A crafty pitcher throughout his big league career, he tallied 3,371 strikeouts, and is tenth in MLB for All Time Strikeouts.
The fist-ballot Hall of Famer will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in July, alongside teammate Tom Glavine, and skipper Bobby Cox.
After the Maddux bobblehead, the team has three more bobblehead giveaways remaining for the 2014 schedule.
- Aug. 14 vs. Dodgers – Evan Gattis
- Sept. 1 vs. Phillies – Bobby Cox
- Sept. 17 vs. Nationals – Tom Glavine
