A 19-game winning streak proves that the Atlanta Hawks are dominating the NBA! They’re currently tied for the fifth longest winning streak in league history. The record for longest winning streak goes to the Los Angeles Lakers who won 33 games straight in the 1971-72 season.
The Hawks are on the road to success, but they have a few tough games ahead of them. Atlanta’s game of the week focuses on Friday night’s matchup between the Atlanta Hawks and Golden State Warriors.
The Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks seem unstoppable lately. With a 40-8 record, they hold the top spot in the NBA. The team has secured wins over many tough teams, including the Portland Trailblazers this past weekend, who now have a 32-16 record and remain number one in their division.
The Atlanta Hawks have never looked better, and their starting lineup just continues to win and win. They are achieving some amazing stats. There have been 13 games where they have had 10 or less turnovers. Atlanta is 8th in the league in free-throws, and they even had 100 percent free-throw success in the game against Oklahoma City. Their assist total is also amazing: The Hawks have assisted on 70 percent of their scores, proving that this team knows how to work together.
The Hawks will be tested in the next few games. After a likely easy game against the New Orleans Pelicans, they will once again play the Timberwolves and Grizzlies, two teams that are also doing quite well. The toughest match-up however will likely be against the Golden State Warriors this Friday night. Hawks Warriors tickets are almost sold-out on the secondary market.
The Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors are the second best team in the NBA, with a 32-16 record. The team was on quite a winning streak, until they had a two game slide last week against the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz. Saturday night however, the Warriors proved victorious in an 87-106 win over the Phoenix Suns.
Before facing the Hawks, the Golden State Warriors will play an away game against the faltering Sacramento Kings and a home game against the Dallas Mavericks. To surpass the Hawks, the Warriors will need to bring their best game to Philips Arena in Atlanta on Friday night.
The Warriors have some fantastic players on their roster. Nicknamed the “Splash Brothers,” Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson are playing like MVPs. The star players have fantastic ball-handling and scoring capabilities, which the Warriors will need to take on the best team in the NBA. Defensive players Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut will also be key, to protect the basket against Al Horford, Paul Millsap and the rest of the Hawks lineup.
Don’t miss what is sure to be an epic game between two NBA powerhouses. The Hawks and Warriors tip off at 7:30 pm Friday, February 6th.
