Pittsburgh’s most well-known jam band Rusted Root are heading to the capital of the South this Saturday to perform live at The Variety Playhouse!
Known for their unique blend of rock, world, and acoustic style of music, along with their religious based lyrics, Rusted Root has sold over three million albums worldwide since debuting back in 1990.
Their launch to international fame took place in 1994 when the group released their second studio album titled, When I Woke. The nonsensical, fun sounds attached to their hit single “Send Me On MY Way” helped the album reach platinum status.
The song itself has since become a part of American pop culture, attracting a tremendous amount of attention from a variety of motion picture soundtracks including:
- Party of Five
- Matilda
- Ice Age
- Standing Still
- Are We There Yet?
- Chuck
- New Girl.
Although their level of immediate fame has dissipated over the years as other music genres have replaced the alternative rock scene of the early 90s, their connection to audiences across the country are what allow them to continue to sell out venues and concerts halls in every city they perform in.
The group offers a tremendous amount of energy and passion to live audiences and both attendees and critics alike only offer the most positive reviews on a continuous basis.

The concert was lengthy and full of energy! Me and a few friends decided to go out of boredom and they put on an awesome show! We were dancing the whole time and I would definitely go see them again!

This was the first Rusted Root show I had ever seen and it will definitely not be the last! They put on an incredible show that was full of so much energy and passion!!! They are all excellent musicians and artists who clearly love what they do.
Favorite Moment: When they performed the song, “Monkey Pants.”

This was my second time seeing Rusted Root and my friends and I were not disappointed! The venue was beautiful and really just the perfect place to see a jam band. The guys played for over two hours that included three different encores.
They offered some of their new songs that are expected to be released on their next album, covered a few classics from the 90s, and were very talkative to the audience.
Despite growing older with the rest of us, these guys are still young at hear and it shows through their performances.
Favorite Moment: Dancing the whole night to each song!
