Atlanta is a city that draws many great performers, and 2014 was a big year for concerts! The year is almost over and we still have some big shows to look forward to, such as Fleetwood Mac and Greg Allman! Check out some of our favorite concerts in 2014. Just looking at this list has us excited for what’s to come in 2015!
Dave Matthews Band
Dave Matthews Band is always a big draw wherever they are performing. They came to perform at Aaron’s Amphitheater in May and Atlanta was excited as usual! The band played such favorites as: “Tripping Billys,” “Stay,” “Satellite,” “Grey Street,” and “Jimi Thing.” Not to disappoint the fans, they came out for an encore and even performed a Neil Young cover!
Jay-Z and Beyonce
Their entrance set the stage for the entire performance: Jay-Z had dark shades and an American flag shirt, Beyonce in a black mesh mask and matching leotard.
The duo enthralled the 50,000 fans at the sold-out Georgia Dome with their performance. The set was 2 and 1/2 hours long, with at least 40 songs, including favorites from both performers’ stellar careers.
Garth Brooks
Until this past September, Garth Brooks had not performed in Atlanta for 18 years. When Brooks announced his concert tour, fans were clamoring to grab tickets. Luckily, more shows were added to accommodate country-hungry fans.
The shows did not disappoint. Yes, Garth Brooks had a headset microphone, cowboy hat and cowboy boots. He also owned the stage. Crowd-pleasers such as “Shamless,” “Rodeo,” “Calling Baton Rouge,” and my personal favorite, “Friends in Low Places,” had the crowd on their feet, dancing and singing along.
Garth Brooks’ wife, Trisha Yearwood, was also on the tour, singing many of her own hits such as “She’s in Love with the Boy.”
Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder came to Atlanta for his “Songs Keys in the Key of Life” was only 11 cities long, and luckily Atlanta was one of those cities! His sold-out show at Philips Arena was a once in lifetime experience. The 64-year old star can still sing and play with the best of musicians. He also sang with guest performer India Arie, and two local musicians, Janelle Monae and Earl Klugh even joined him onstage.
Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney is a legend in his own right, and at 72-years old, he is still a rockstar! McCartney graced Atlanta with his musical presence in October, for the first time since 2009.
He is definitely not slowing down, as his show was three hours long and almost 40 songs! Opening the show with “Eight Days a Week” insured the crowd to be on their feet and geared up for the rest of the night. Philips Arena was entranced for the entire show, while Mccartney performed songs such as “Blackbird,” “Yesterday,” “Paperback Writer,” and “Eleanor Rigby.”
Black Keys
Who ever thought a duo from Ohio would hit it big? The Black Keys recently performed at Philips Arena and rocked the house! The band opened with fan-favorite “Dead and Gone” and continued on with a set list that spanned their entire musical career.
After a ten minute pause, they came back on stage for a three song encore, ending the show with “Black Submarine.” The Black Keys may not have been the biggest act to visit Atlanta, but they definitely put on a great show. Check out our full concert review of the Black Keys concert!
